Borneo, Living Waters Village

Living Waters Village

A 12-hour-long bus ride deep into the jungles of Borneo takes you to a village like no other.

800 Dayak children live together in the Living Waters village and each life is a testimony to the power of transformation.

Abandoned by their parents because of their disabilities or health conditions, these children living in the remote village have not been able to access medical help. Moved by their plight, Living Oaks partnered the village leadership to build an air strip, to give them air connections to Kuching, to receive medical care and purchase essential supplies for the village. This was something we have never built before, involving massive coordination with neighbouring airports, aviation ministries and required understanding flight paths. When fully operational, the 1,500-metre-long airstrip will make a tangible difference to the residents’ quality of life.

Living Oaks is also building other facilities for the village, like a school and an auditorium, because we believe in the transformational power of education. Once completed, the village will be able to house 1,000 children and serve 2,000 students, from primary to high school level.
